“let there be light – our gallery event for 2010. we showed a collection of some of our favourite images from the last 6 years at graydon gallery in brisbane. our past clients and friends came to see how work and enjoy in a candy bar. these are a selection of the images we displayed.”
“motherhood. more than any other image i have captured this one says motherhood to me. it is the love, the protection, the joy, the peace, the comfort and the sweetness than i wish all children experienced with their mother and all mothers with their children.”
“so.. by now you know this is my son. this image made it into the gallery because this is my favourite client’s favourite image. my husband loves this.. and we have a 40 x 60 canvas of it in our entrance way. he was about four here but it is timeless.”
“i captured her the day she was born. I have captured her many times since.. i hope to keep doing it. a split second of quiet.. she is so intense and beautiful and magnificent.”
“this was shot at a birthday party. he was a guest. he dived under and up came the perfect drop of water.. i love the colours, movement and that perfectly timed, fluke of getting the drop and the circles around it.”
“this is a game we play at the end of sessions. it is called click. i say click. you pull a different face. i love it. clients love it. this is in their dining room. how fun is that!”
“sweet gypsey child. she stopped me. ran over and grabbed the scarf and came dancing back. she doesn’t walk. she moves – by dancing, twirling, running, skipping.. but i don’t think i have ever seen her walk. ha. she is fantastic.”
“me- just hold the baby up on your shoulder. him- OK. and plop.. new baby’s little head landed on his shoulder.. squish. snap. love it.”
“this is the most wonderful, special child i will ever photographer. ever. he is my favourite child. i adore every single thing about him. i am biased. i am his mother.”
“and the winner is..! they had just played rock, scissors, paper.. guess who won?”
“she was quieter. she was able to be still. moreso than the other girls in the group this day. the stiller she was, the more beautiful.”
“i just love this. the ‘crazy baby hair’ as it is known at our house (not reserved just for babies. ha) and the lean. six months old and learning to sit.. and then lean and flop. adorable. oh and those eyes. don’t even get me started.”
“she was five days old. tiny. i always forget how small they are. always. such a pleasure to meet new babies.”
“this the coolest cubby house. western red cedar… made with love by dad.. i took this image of mother and son when i was doing his new little brothers newborn session. love the dog and the yoghurt.. life goes on.. it doesnt stop for new babies or photo sessions.”
“sweet new baby girl. it was a pleasure to meet her and watch her grow. she was in the entrance hall when i arrived and we captured everything on one floor tile.. barely moved from the spot. didn’t need to!”
“this makes me laugh everytime i see it. he wasn’t too sure if he should smash it, squish it etc. mum was showing him how. we got there slowly. next day at his family birthday party he smashed a rather expensive special chocolate cake.. before the guests ate it..and was so pleased .. opps”
“this was a lovely little boy.. and the best dog. i wanted a dog all the way home. i remembered the hours throwing balls to our dogs. he was so up for the game.”
“this cat was chased by a dog just minutes before we shot this. the cat is still less than impressed and watchful. love the dark mood.. this cat has some serious attitude!”
“the goal of every session is to capture family life and interactions at this point in time. we built the sandcastle (a dragon rather than an actual castle) and then a series of images of them running up and jumping on it. this is the cover of their book, the back is the landing. ha)
“i often ask – does he have any new tricks? the answer was -yes! each night when his bath is filling he stands on tippy toes and watches the water whoosh in.. it’s pretty cute. yes. yes it is. … “
“why would you all look at me for a family portrait when you can have something like this. these are my very favourite kinds of family portraits.”
“two sisters swimming in their backyard pool. we wanted something more abstract for their wall. something that wouldn’t date.”
“we shot this in conjunction with a tv station. i had offered a smash cake session. the day before the station said no to any mess. no cake. no mess. i abided by it.. she did this herself i swear. with a mini cupcake. ha. i was so impressed.
“she arrived with perfect hair, perfect make up. she was up for anything i asked of her.. the wind came and blew her hair.. and yet.. she still looked radiant. so beautiful. inside and out.”
“this lil guy has four older brothers and sisters. he is surrounded by big people who love him. i thought this was a great way to capture them, their personalities and his size and place in the family.”
“it surprised me that someone as small and cute himself would be a big brother… and yet he stepped right up to the job on day one. he is brilliant at it.”
“i thought this was just a nice moment patting the family cat in the backyard.. then i saw the cat. love the cat. this photo changed from being about two little girls to being all about that cat.”
“sweet sweet newborn.. curled up on his mother. she had beautiful eyelashes, he was those cute things new babies are.. love this moment.”
“newly sitting baby…let’s prop him in between everyone. he leaned over and went to eat grandma’s toes. grandma just curled her toes and got on with it. love it. ha”
“green grass to roll and run on.. check. fluffy ears for patting. check. big sad eyes to encourage ball throwing. check. wet nose. check.. big pink tongue.. check. yep. it is a much loved family dog.”
“he couldn’t wait to join in the fun and was born several weeks early. all newborns surprise me by how small they are but this lil guy was tiny. after several hours he fell asleep in basket lined with a fluffy cushion. we never wake a sleeping baby. so we left him.. and just watched him sleeping peacefully.”
“photography can be dangerous work. they sat on the edge of the cru bar in the window bay and i stood in the middle of busy james st. on the white line.. as cars whooshed around me but i think it was worth it.”
“ah to be young and in love. we should all have an image to remind of us this feeling.”
